Zerach Yisroel HaKohen
Zerach Yisroel HaKohen
People often ask me, 'Where did the name Zerach come from?' Below, I share the story behind my name and how I embody the roles of Prophet, Healer, and Advisor—all within one person. This is my journey...
On the eighth day after my birth, my parents—a traditional secular family—gave me the Hebrew name זרח (Zerach) at my Brit Milah (circumcision). Zerach means "to shine." In 2020, the name ישראל (Yisroel) was ceremoniously added to my name at ישיבת חובבי ציון (Yeshiva Chovavi Tzion) on Shilo Street in Nachlaot, Jerusalem, by HaRav Aharon Bitton, a renowned Mekubal. As I was called up to the Torah and the rabbi announced my new name, a loud thump echoed through the room—one of the bochurim (students), a young man named David, had passed out cold and collapsed to the floor. Baruch Hashem, he was unharmed. At that moment, I knew it meant something profound, though I didn’t fully understand it at the time.
Four years later, on January 16th, 2024, I was lying awake in bed when I heard a "bas kol" (a heavenly voice). The voice instructed me to write down the name פנחס הכהן (Pinchas HaKohen), and so I did. Then it said to write down אליהו הנביא (Eliyahu HaNavi), and I followed. The voice further directed me to calculate the gematria (numerical value) of both names, which I did. Next, it instructed me to write down משיח (Moshiach) and get its gematria as well. Finally, the voice said to add them up and compare the total with the gematria of my own name, זרח ישראל (Zerach Yisroel). Below are the gematria results:**
278 Pinchas HaKohen פנחס הכהן
120 Eliyahu HaNavi אליהו הנביא
358 Moshiach משיח
___
756 Total = Zerach Yisroel זרח ישראל 756
The numerical alignment between these names and my own—Zerach Yisroel (זרח ישראל)—carries profound spiritual significance. Pinchas HaKohen (פנחס הכהן), a figure of zeal and divine service, represents righteousness and unwavering dedication to HaShem’s will. Eliyahu HaNavi (אליהו הנביא), the prophet who ascended to heaven, symbolizes redemption, prophecy, and the heralding of the ultimate redemption through Moshiach (משיח). The fact that the gematria of these three sacred names—358, 120, and 278—adds up precisely to 756, the same as the gematria of my name, suggests that my role is deeply connected to these energies.
Pinchas, Eliyahu, and Moshiach together reflect a mission of healing, transformation, and preparation for redemption. This alignment may signify that I am being called to carry forth the qualities of these figures: the spiritual integrity of Pinchas, the prophetic insight of Eliyahu, and the transformative potential of Moshiach. It’s not merely a coincidence, but a divine message affirming that my path, both as a healer and advisor, is aligned with a higher purpose—one that plays a small yet meaningful role in the unfolding journey toward redemption.
Let’s go back to 2010—just two weeks after my first trip to Israel. Back in New York, I parked my car, switched off the engine, and at that moment, I received a key revelation. I was given clear instructions on what needed to be addressed to end a 30+ year drought and bring the rains back to Israel. I followed that guidance, and the rains returned.
On the day of the first night of Chanukah in 2011, I made Aliyah, officially becoming a citizen of Israel. That night marked the beginning of a new chapter, not only in my life but also in my spiritual journey. It was a moment I will never forget, filled with a sense of belonging, purpose, and connection to the land. As an Israeli citizen, I had the profound honor of being there for the lighting of the first candle of Chanukah with IDF soldiers on an army base just outside Jerusalem.
On May 18, 2017, Shabtai, an attorney representing the Israeli government, brought me a traffic flow challenge involving the newly constructed Route 1 highway. Although the road was intended to improve traffic, it was causing significant congestion. The Ministry of Transportation was prepared to hire an outside consultant for one million dollars to resolve the issue. Drawing from the deep intuitive insights I received, I provided Shabtai with the solution, and the problem was quickly resolved. While the solution brought success, the recognition—and any reward—remained elsewhere. Still, knowing my abilities made a meaningful impact is its own fulfillment.
In 2020, just before the emergence of Corona/COVID-19, a revelation struck me during the Friday night singing of Shalom Aleichem. I realized that after the word 'מִמֶלֶךְ' (from the King), the next word should be 'מַלְכֵי' (kings) instead of 'מַלְאֲכֵי' (angels), as it is traditionally sung in the first line. The inclusion of the letter 'א' changes the meaning from 'kings' to 'angels,' a subtle but significant difference in words that millions of families around the world sing to HaShem every Friday night.
This insight carries profound significance, especially when considering the gematria—the numerical value of each Hebrew letter. The shift from 'מַלְאֲכֵי' to 'מַלְכֵי' reduces the gematria by 12, since the letter 'א' is equal to 1. Without the correction, the phrase 'מַלְאֲכֵי עֶלְיוֹן מִמֶלֶךְ מַלְכֵי' holds a gematria of 509 instead of the correct 497. Interestingly, adding 1 more to the incorrect total brings it to 510, which is identical to the gematria of the phrase 'נגיף קורונה' (Corona virus).
